gooseberry flowers

click thumbnails, to enlarge …

a very sweet berry,
picked early in June
and a delicious ingredient
of gooseberry pie

but I’ve always wondered
about their flowers
where and when to find them

hence I kept my eyes open
in time used the macro
and put these tiny beauties
in a well deserved spotlight

      • It made me sit up and notice. Or rather, notice more as I walk about. I know definitely about maples because they contribute to the pollen of which I am extremely allergic. This is off subject a bit, but one of the loveliest blooms is on the okra plant. Spectacular.

  1. Reblogged this on Teacher as Transformer and commented:
We grew gooseberries in our backyard. We picked them early, while they were green, and made pies and jam. They were still bitter, but in northern Alberta the growing season is shorter and adding sugar made the products quite delectable. I did not enjoy picking them as the plants are quite thorny, but, once picked, they were amazing.

  2. How pretty. I’ve never seen a gooseberry flower before. We have a couple of wild gooseberry plants in the garden but I’ve never looked for the flowers. I shall go and have a peek!
