desiring to be without desires … ?

a tree with loose attachments

a tree with loose attachments

The end of all desires, is not something consciousness really wants. Consciousness wants to communicate and express love. This ‘want’ is kind of a desire. The kind of desire that drives compassion. An internal fire. A kind of passion for life.

When I met the teacher 4 years ago, his first lesson, was about desire.
He said: “Without desire we would become like a tree.”

So our destiny is not to become
beings without a mind,
beings without desire,
beings without attachment,
beings without passion.

Perhaps our aim in life and being could be
to mobilize the forces of mind, desire, attachment and passion
at the service of love and compassion.

  1. I think we can be in just about any state of mind when we’re in the service of compassion, kindness, and love.

Thank you for sharing this perspective. It’s liberating in a way.

    • Accepting our states of mind, being aware that they are just transient states that shouldn’t often be acted upon, is one side of liberation. Not feeling the fear of change, will make us open for love and compassion.

  2. Desire is the foundation for motivation. Without desire, is it possible for us to accomplish? The end of desire is purpose. Great post Bert, have a great weekend xx
